Africa’s most pressing problems transcend regional borders, calling for collective action and cross-country collaboration. Aspiring leaders join hands to identify local problems, create innovative solutions and develop socially relevant impact projects at the Changemakers’ Room 2018 Africa Edition, scheduled to take place from July 15th to July 22th 2018 in Lagos, Nigeria.
Changemakers’ Room 2018 Africa Edition is a six day long Training Forum, gathering some of the most promising grassroots practitioners, socially active youth workers, social entrepreneurs, activists and community leaders from across Africa and Europe to identify local and international problems, ideate solutions, build long-lasting partnerships and develop international mobility projects creating interventions in response to those issues.
The Changemakers’ Room is an internationally recognized Training Forum organized by Make Room, Global Social Change Ecosystem and Association Work in Progress. The Changemakers’ Room Africa Edition 2018 is scheduled to take place from July 15th to July 22th 2018 in Lagos, Nigeria. The Africa edition is co-organized by the African Network of Youth Policy Experts (AfriNYPE), Make Room and Association Work in Progress.
The African Network of Youth Policy Experts (AfriNYPE), founded in 2014, is a regional network that federates expertise on Youth Policies. It was established to enhance advocacy for youth policy implementations and realisations among African countries by persuading Africa’s UN Member States to renew their commitments regarding implementing Youth Policies on the continent. The network also facilitates knowledge development on Youth Policy matters for the African youth. AfriNYPE has country chapters and membership in 45 African countries and has carried out Youth Policy situation analysis in 50 African countries as research work. The network is currently in partnership with the University of Dscheng in Cameroon towards establishing first Youth Policy Lab in Africa. Also, AfriNYPE partners with the Global Social Change Ecosystem, Make Room for the coordination and of the 1st Africa Edition of the Changemakers’ Room Training Forum.
Following the 5th European Union – African Union Summit in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, AfriNYPE in collaboration with Make Room and Work in Progress aim to build a cooperative, impact-oriented ecosystem fostering youth active participation in building sustainable, innovative and replicable solutions to some of the region’s most pressing issues.
The programme of the Changemakers’ Room Africa Edition makes an extensive use of non-formal education efforts to utilize potential of human talent and social capital, while conforming to the principle of lifelong learning by linking support to formal, non-formal and informal learning practices. The 8 day programme is a perfect mixture of strategic project planning, immersive field trips, innovative learning methodologies, simulation games and team building exercises. Through role-play, research, case-studies, field visits, hands-on learning methods, interaction with industry professionals and intense team building, the selected changemakers will enhance international project management skills and advocacy for social change, critical thinking, negotiation, problem solving and cultural intelligence for leadership.

The Changemakers’ Room 2018 Africa Edition is the 1st phase of the overall initiative coordinated by the AfriNYPE and the Make Room. Throughout the 8 day long programme, the 50 carefully selected changemakers will work to develop innovative projects developing interventions to solve some of the most pressing issues of the region.
Previously Changemakers’ Room Training Forums have been held across Europe and India mobilising 106 changemakers from 47 countries. The Changemakers’ Room Training Forum had previously gathered wide attention globally enabling changemakers to interact with extraordinary visionaries such as: Anshu Gupta (Magsaysay Awardee & Founder, Goonj); Dr. Shruti Kapoor (Founder, Sayfty & UN Women); Shikha Uberoi (Co-founder, indi.com India & former Tennis player); Edgars Rinkēvičs (Foreign Affairs Minister, Republic of Latvia); Dr. Sunitha Krishnan (Founder, Prajwala).
